US 1, China 2, Japan 3, and then the rest

China finally and officially raced past Japan to become second largest economy in the world. (Though, I thought this event had taken place a decade ago, or what was all the celebration and talk about?) Now, of course, China faces an uphill task of challenging the United States.

My bet: US, at $14.3 trillion and $46,000 per capita income, will remain economic giant for a really really long time.

"According to the International Monetary Fund, Japan's gross domestic product (GDP) was $5.39 trillion (£3.3 trillion) in 2010. China's preliminary figure shows its GDP last year was $5.75 trillion." BBC
